New Whirlyball 7″ for Sale!

At first they said it couldn’t be done, but we did it. The first time it was Deerhunter, The Carbonas, The Selmanaires and The Coathangers. It was a rousing success! And now, it’s Chunklet’s pleasure to present…….

You’re cordially invited….

The Black Lips! The Baby Shakes! Gentleman Jesse & His Men! Coffin Bound! Exclusive tracks by all four bands! As with the last whirlyball show, the ticket is a record that is bought only in person at Criminal Records. Show is January 19 at Whirlyball Atlanta. This will signal the second time The Black Lips have performed at this venue.

To those who can’t make it to Georgia (which is a lame excuse, by the way), a very limited amount will be available for sale via the chunklet.com site after the show. Please do not give into eBay hounds, they’re money grubbing douchenozzles who care more about money than the actual show.

What’s Wrong With This Picture?

I’m not crying sour grapes, but the fact that Patton’s "Werewolves" album wasn’t nominated for a Grammy is a travesty. Additionally, the fact that I produced the album doesn’t taint my opinion whatsoever.

Two Comedy Central albums?! The fuck?!

Congrats to the Conchords!

I’m off to England here in a few hours. I don’t want anybody touching my stuff.

Andy Kaufman’s “I Trusted You”

Ah, the Athens "sense of humor." Far too serious to joke and then once they decide to be funny, they fucking snap the goddamned knob off. And to think I lived there for years! Hard to believe…..

Which brings me to BBQ Pants. This band features Dave from Widespread Panic, Kevin and Nick from Hayride and Kyle from Harvey Milk and The Tom Collins. Earlier this week, they were opening for Dinosaur Jr. and, not surprisingly, J. Mascis (former boss and/or band mate to almost all in BBQ Pants) came out to kick out the jams on this absolutely genius cover of Andy Kaufman’s "I Trusted You." I was practically busting a gut during their performance. Great stuff.

And would you believe two of them have submissions in The Rock Bible?

Sometimes working with comedians is really fun, other times it isn’t. And then you have these douchebags.*

Who do you think is giving out the most bitter vibes? I’m going with Nick.

*It should be noted that I put these shows on in the South back in October. For comedians, they were only mostly insufferable.

Asshole Santa Hits Atlanta (part 1)

I really love Criminal Records. I’d do anything for them. In fact, I love them so much that I smoke shitty cigars, douse myself in equally shitty cologne, don a Santa outfit and then allow store customers to sit on my lap for a day around Christmas. What is this? Well, it’s Asshole Santa, you dunce.

Southern Culture on the Skids and Asshole Santa, Atlanta ’07

With my trusty sidekicks Dookie and Crappy the Elves, we endure six hours of non-stop abuse. However, the abuse goes both ways. We dish it out in great big heapin’ bowls and often times traumatize little children and/or humorless coffee shop types in the process.

Here’s a link to this year’s photos. Here’s last year’s. I’m gonna try to find the first year’s. Those were insane.
