Death “Politicians In My Eyes” 7″

From Dirtbomb and occasional Chunklet contrib Ben Blackwell:

"Recorded in 1974, released in 1976. Three African-American brothers from the east side of Detroit who were Jehovah’s Witnesses. They later went on to do Christian psych music as The Fourth Movement, and two of the brothers are now in a reggae band in Vermont."

He claims he’s doing an article for Ugly Things about the band, but as of now, this is all he’s got about them. A damn smokin’ song if there ever was one.

ADDENDUM: Ben just emailed me another track, the b-side, entitled "Keep On Knockin’".

Harvey Milk’s “The Pleaser” Goes Double Gatefold!

One of the greatest classic rock albums of the last twenty years is being put out on double album gatefold by l’il ol’ Chunklet in the next month. Go get it over here….

Get It Up & Get It On……

All the original color photos were dug up, retouched and relaid out. The inner gatefold has all color pix from the original CD tray. Absolutely essential.

Out by end of May 2008.

AND!!!! In honor of the occasion, here’s an 18 minute clip of Harvey Milk’s final performance back in ’98. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the final performance before the reunion, but it was still a final show. Pleaser line-up, everybody super smashed, probably the best show I’ve ever seen (still) to this day.

We wanted to use this recording for the "Anthem" DVD, but we were worried about copyright issues. Special guests include Chris Lopez (Rock*A*Teens….who opened), Dave Barbe (who recorded "The Pleaser") and Dewitt Burton (who’s a legend). Yeah, it’s not the best fidelity, but it’s the only version that exists. Enjoy!

SURVEY: My Favorite Unused Band Name…..

I just came up with one that I think will look amazing on a t-shirt.

Prohi-bortion

You hit people who are against abortion and irony enthusiasts. Might be a hard one to grasp, but it’s a home run. At least it seemed that way when I was cleaning the lint between my toes before I went to bed last night.

Are there other untapped band name/genres that I’m just not thinking of?

Idealism (circa 1991)

As a tourist of the DC scene in the late ’80’s and early ’90’s, it was really mind blowing watching ths video. I attended quite a few Positive Force events with bills that were bursting at the seams with Dischord or even Simple Machines bands many of which are showcased in this documentary.

This video captures the vibe and the people at a perfect moment in my early notion of DC and the people that made the scene there grow.

One of these days I’ll recount how I was turned away from the first riot grrrl convention because I was a dude, but that’s for another time.

Best and Worst Rock Collaborations?

We’re looking for the best in worst rock collaborations. The worst dynamic duos in rock. For example, we consider one of the best  to be Phil Collins and Phillip Bailey’s monumental rock epic "Easy Lover" and one of the worst to be R.E.M and KRS-1’s "Radio Song". Who got their musical chocolate in somebody’s equally musical peanut butter?

Please note, if your listed collaboration is a "best" or "worst".

Dear Rock Star….

We’re coming up with a list called "Dear Rock Star" for the next issue which is a list in question form asking an artist/band why they did one stupid thing or another.

Here’s a few examples:

"Dear REM, Why did it take you 14 years to figure out that people wanted you to shut up and rock?"

"Dear Bob Mould, why do you insist on DJing without a shirt on? You have ex-fat guy skinny guy belly."

"Dear Juno Soundtrack, why did you make the world a place where I can’t escape the childish out-of-tune ramblings of the Moldy Peaches?"

GVSB, why did you make this piece of garbage?

"Dear Ladyhawk, why are you guys so afraid of taking showers?"

"Dear MOJO editors, why do you insist on the miniscule revolving door of having the Clash, Oasis, Pink Floyd, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan and The Smiths on your magazine covers?"

I think that’s more than enough to go from. Put all suggestiosn and/or entries in comments.
